History
The Century Manor was purchased from John Sawaya Sr. by John M. Hanigan late in 2010. Mr. Sawaya and his wife Betty started the business in 1952. At that time of purchase the building, a beautifully rich manor, was 100 years old. Hence, The Century Manor was born. Easily said, the Century Manor has a rich and colorful history. Many of the patrons will happily share any number of the stories unique to it.
As with any memorable restaurant, the food is the focal point. The Century Manor is a prime example and this has been the reason for the long running success of the ‘Manor’. The steaks are like no other, and although unneeded, Mr. Sawaya developed his own unique au jus/ steak sauce that is simply amazing and must be tried.
An extremely close second to the Century Manors unmistakable draw has always been the atmosphere. Mr. Sawaya found a way to marry and highlight the two. He removed the fireplace in the dining room and replaced it with an open grill. There you could and still can watch your steak or entrée being cooked literally to perfection and share a conversation with the cook themselves. Few places afford you this luxury in such a comfortable atmosphere lacking in pretense.
The attention to detail and the layout of the Century Manor lends itself to a perfect blend of elegance, service, familiarity and comfort. It is the sought after place for any special date or a simple night to unwind and enjoy the good things in life.
